Stray Tapes were one of the more prominent Perth original bands of the early 80s, a time when alternative bands were thin on the ground in Perth.
Led by Nigel Harford and Peter Bates, Stray Tapes performed poppy, guitar-based tunes with intelligent themes. With the above lineup, they released a three-track 45 in early 1982 on Resonant Records (it was to be that label's last release), but split soon after. Nigel later cited revolving-door drummers, band disunity and an inability to replicate their sound in a live setting as the main reasons for the breakup.
Nigel and Peter went on to form German Humour a few months later.
