This
record, one of only two Australian Monkees 45s not to sport a printed
picture cover, was released to co-incide with the Monkees' trip to Australia
as part of their 1968 "Far East" tour.
By
this time, "Mary Mary" was almost two years old, but this certainly
did not hinder the song making number three in the top 40 chart in Australia.
The B-side, "What Am I Doing Hangin' Round", originates from
the fourth Monkees LP "Pisces Aquarius Capricorn & Jones Ltd",
and the pairing of these two songs is unique to this Australian release.
Paradoxically,
although this was a top five hit at the time, it is one of the more uncommon
Monkees records in Australia, and it is quite rare to actually see one.
I never laid eyes on one myself until quite recently, and I've been trying
to collect these things for the past twenty-five years or so!
