The
first of several Monkees EP releases. In the mid to late '60s, "Extended
Play" 45s were still popular in many worldwide markets such as the
UK and Australia, but they never really took off in the USA. They were
useful compromises for people who either didn't want to buy a whole album,
or couldn't readily afford to buy one (such as teenagers with limited
purchasing power).
This
EP, which was subtitled "(Theme From) The Monkees", actually
made number one in the charts, and collects songs from the first side
of the first, self-titled Monkees LP.
Of
note on the record label writing credits is that "Goffin-King"
is listed as King-Goffin".
